The UK television programme Dragons' Den first premiered on BBC Two in 2005.
The series launched in January 2005 as a British adaptation of the international Dragons' Den format. Entrepreneurs enter a studio and present businesses, products or ideas to a panel of wealthy investors, asking for money in exchange for an ownership stake.
BBC Two was the programme's original home and remained closely associated with the series as it developed into one of the BBC's best-known business programmes. The channel distinction matters because BBC One, BBC Three and Channel 4 have also carried popular factual and entertainment formats, but they did not premiere the British Dragons' Den series.
The programme later became part of a worldwide franchise. Different countries adapted the format under titles including Shark Tank, but the British version retained the Dragons' Den name and its BBC presentation style.
