Dragon's Den first began broadcasting in the United Kingdom on BBC Two.
The British version premiered in 2005 as part of the BBC's factual and entertainment programming. Its central idea was simple: entrepreneurs present their businesses to a panel of wealthy investors, known as Dragons, and seek money in exchange for a percentage of ownership.
BBC Two has historically carried many factual, arts, documentary and specialist programmes, making it a natural home for a business-focused format. Dragon's Den later became one of the BBC's most recognisable entrepreneurial programmes, with repeats and related coverage reaching a broad audience.
The channel is an important part of the programme's history, but it is not the same as the show's international format origin. Dragon's Den was adapted for Britain from Japan's Money Tigers, while many other countries later produced their own versions under related titles. BBC One, BBC Three and Channel 4 are therefore common channel mix-ups, but none was the original UK home.
