In "Star Wars: Episode II – Attack of the Clones," the clone army is being developed on Kamino. The planet is a remote water world covered by oceans and violent storms, with cities built on enormous stilts above the waves. Its inhabitants, the Kaminoans, are renowned throughout the galaxy for their cloning technology.
Jedi Knight Obi-Wan Kenobi discovers Kamino while investigating the attempted assassination of Senator Padmé Amidala. The planet has mysteriously disappeared from the Jedi Archives, but Obi-Wan follows evidence there and finds a massive army being grown for the Galactic Republic. The Kaminoans say the order was placed by Jedi Master Sifo-Dyas, though the project has been manipulated as part of a much larger political conspiracy.
Jango Fett supplied the genetic template for the soldiers, while the Kaminoans handled their biological development, accelerated aging, education, and combat training. Kamino is sometimes confused with Geonosis, where the first major battle of the Clone Wars takes place. Geonosis is associated with the Separatist droid army and the battle; Kamino is the clone army's development and training world.
