Answer
December 7, 2018
Super Smash Bros. Ultimate was released for Nintendo Switch on December 7, 2018.
Nintendo and Bandai Namco Studios launched Super Smash Bros. Ultimate worldwide on that date. It is the fifth main installment in Nintendo’s crossover fighting series and brings together fighters from many Nintendo franchises and third-party series. Its slogan, “Everyone is here!”, highlighted the return of every playable character from previous Super Smash Bros. games.
The game launched with 74 fighters, counting the Pokémon Trainer’s three selectable Pokémon separately in commonly cited roster counts. Later downloadable content expanded the roster substantially through the Fighters Passes and individual challenger packs.
The release date is sometimes confused with the dates of major downloadable characters. Joker arrived in April 2019, while the final downloadable fighter, Sora from Kingdom Hearts, was added in October 2021. Those additions came after the original retail release.
