Disney’s 2023 film The Little Mermaid was released in the United States on May 26, 2023.
The date refers to the film’s wide theatrical release in the United States. It followed the world premiere at the Dolby Theatre in Los Angeles on May 8, 2023. The movie opened during the Memorial Day holiday weekend, a major period for Hollywood releases.
The adaptation was directed by Rob Marshall and stars Halle Bailey as Ariel, Jonah Hauer-King as Prince Eric, Melissa McCarthy as Ursula, and Javier Bardem as King Triton. It combines newly filmed scenes with computer-generated underwater environments and musical performances.
This release date is separate from the 1989 animated film’s theatrical history. The original film received its wide release on November 17, 1989, so the two versions are separated by more than three decades.
