Harry Potter’s birthday in J.K. Rowling’s novels is 31 July. The date is stated in the books and is also J.K. Rowling’s birthday, creating a memorable connection between author and protagonist.
Harry was born in 1980, according to the chronology established in the novels. His birth is central to the prophecy involving Lord Voldemort, which identifies a child born at the end of July as having the power to defeat him. Harry’s parents were killed on the night of 31 October 1981, shortly after his first birthday.
Readers sometimes confuse Harry’s birthday with Halloween because the attack on the Potter family occurred on 31 October. Hermione Granger’s birthday is 19 September, while Ron Weasley’s is 1 March, so the three friends have birthdays in different seasons.
