On what date does America's 250th anniversary fall?

America’s 250th anniversary falls on July 4, 2026. The date marks 250 years since the Second Continental Congress adopted the Declaration of Independence on July 4, 1776.

July 4 is known in the United States as Independence Day. Although the Revolutionary War continued for years after 1776, the anniversary is tied to the Declaration’s adoption rather than to the later peace treaty, the final British evacuation, or the ratification of the Constitution.

The date also explains why America250 celebrations center on Independence Day. The United States’ earlier major national anniversary, the Bicentennial, occurred on July 4, 1976. The 2026 milestone is therefore the 250th anniversary of the independence declaration, not the 250th anniversary of the Constitution or the country’s first presidential inauguration.
