On what date did WCW Monday Nitro first air from the Mall of America?

The story behind the answer

WCW Monday Nitro first aired from the Mall of America on September 4, 1995.

The inaugural broadcast came from Bloomington, Minnesota, and was shown live on TNT. Lex Luger made a surprise appearance on the debut episode after leaving the World Wrestling Federation, immediately signaling that WCW intended to compete aggressively for wrestling viewers.

Monday Nitro became the centerpiece of WCW’s weekly programming and entered a long-running ratings competition with WWF Monday Night Raw. The period became known as the Monday Night War, with the two shows competing for audience attention throughout the late 1990s.

Nitro’s first episode is sometimes confused with the launch of WCW’s earlier weekly programs. The show was a separate Monday-night series and was not simply a renamed version of World Championship Wrestling’s previous television broadcasts.
