On what date did Roald Dahl die in Oxford?

The story behind the answer

Roald Dahl died in Oxford on 23 November 1990.

He was 74 years old. Dahl had been born on 13 September 1916 in Cardiff, Wales, and spent his later years living at Gipsy House in Great Missenden, Buckinghamshire. He died at the John Radcliffe Hospital in Oxford.

Dahl’s death came after a career that included children’s novels, adult short stories, screenwriting, and memoirs. His major children’s books continued to be published and adapted after his death, keeping his characters familiar to new generations.

The date is sometimes mixed up with his birth date because both are frequently cited in biographies. His birth date was 13 September 1916; his death date was 23 November 1990. The Roald Dahl Museum and Story Centre opened in Great Missenden in 2005.
