On what date did C.S. Lewis die?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis died on 22 November 1963.

He died at his home, The Kilns, near Oxford, after suffering from heart and kidney problems. Lewis was 64 years old. His death date is notable because it was also the day on which U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the day before the death of writer Aldous Huxley.

Because the date coincided with major international news, Lewis’s death received less immediate attention than it might otherwise have done. His funeral took place at Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry, the Oxford church connected with his family and local life.

The date can be mistaken for 23 November, the day when news of Kennedy’s assassination dominated many British newspapers, or for 30 November, which is sometimes remembered in connection with Lewis’s academic and literary chronology. The precise date is 22 November 1963.
