On what date did C.S. Lewis die in Oxfordshire in 1963?

The story behind the answer

C.S. Lewis died on 22 November 1963.

Lewis died at his home, The Kilns, near Oxford, one week before his sixty-fifth birthday. The date was also the day U.S. President John F. Kennedy was assassinated, and the day English writer Aldous Huxley died. That coincidence has made Lewis’s death date especially memorable in biographies and cultural histories.

Lewis had experienced serious health problems, including a heart attack in 1956 and kidney failure near the end of his life. He was buried in the churchyard of Holy Trinity Church, Headington, Oxford. His brother, Warren Lewis, survived him and later helped preserve and publish material concerning Lewis’s life and writings.
