Answer
22 November 1963
C.S. Lewis died at his home, The Kilns, on 22 November 1963.
He died in Oxfordshire, England, one week before his sixty-fifth birthday. His death date coincided with the deaths of John F. Kennedy and Aldous Huxley, an unusual convergence that has often been noted in accounts of the day.
The Kilns was a house near Oxford where Lewis lived for many years. He shared it with his brother Warren and, for a period, with Janie Moore. Lewis’s funeral took place at Holy Trinity Church, Headington Quarry, where he was buried.
Lewis had suffered from serious health problems, including heart trouble and kidney failure. Despite his declining health, he remained active as a writer and scholar during his years at Cambridge. His final completed novel, Till We Have Faces, had appeared seven years before his death.
