On the sitcom “Taxi,” Latka’s wife is named Simka.
Simka Dahblitz-Gravas is played by Carol Kane and becomes Latka Gravas’s romantic partner during the series. Like Latka, she comes from the show’s unnamed fictional homeland and speaks in the same invented language style. Their relationship is especially comic because they belong to different ethnic groups that traditionally dislike one another, yet fall in love and marry.
Latka, played by Andy Kaufman, is the gentle but eccentric mechanic at the center of many of Taxi’s strangest stories. Simka is generally more assertive than he is, particularly when standing up for him against the abrasive dispatcher Louie De Palma. Her confidence gives their scenes a lively contrast with Latka’s sweetness and nervousness.
One possible source of confusion is that Latka has other romantic and marital complications. Early in the series, he marries an American prostitute to avoid deportation, and later storylines play with his multiple personalities and his relationship with Simka.
