On the reality show 'The Circle,' the top-rated players who can block others are called Influencers.
Players in The Circle communicate through a private social-media-style interface while living separately from one another. At regular points in the game, they secretly rank the other contestants. The rankings are averaged, and the players with the highest results usually become the Influencers for that round.
Influencers have a major strategic advantage: they decide which contestant will be eliminated, or “blocked.” In many rounds, the Influencers discuss the choice privately and agree on one player, although special twists can change the process. A blocked player leaves the game and typically records a farewell video, sometimes revealing whether they were playing as themselves or as a catfish. “Catfish” describes a deceptive identity, not the top-ranked role.
