On Arthur, Mister Rogers appeared as what kind of animal?
Answer
Aardvark
Answer
Aardvark
On Arthur, Mister Rogers appeared as an aardvark, like the show’s title character.
Fred Rogers guest-starred as himself in the animated series episode “Arthur Meets Mister Rogers.” The episode’s joke is that the real-world television host is adapted into Arthur’s animal world, so Rogers appears as an anthropomorphic aardvark rather than as a human visitor. The character still represents Mister Rogers, preserving his familiar identity and gentle manner.
The choice can seem surprising because Rogers was strongly associated with his human role on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood. Arthur, however, is built around talking animal characters, and Arthur Read himself is an aardvark. Rogers’ guest appearance therefore follows the visual and storytelling rules of the animated series.
Arthur began as Marc Brown’s children’s-book character and became a PBS television series in 1996. The show ran for 25 seasons and 253 half-hour episodes, while Rogers’ guest appearance came during its early years. A later crossover went in the opposite direction: Arthur appeared in puppet form on Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood.
