Near which country is Jurassic Park's Isla Nublar located?

The story behind the answer

Isla Nublar in Jurassic Park is located near Costa Rica. The fictional island is described as lying about 120 miles (190 kilometers) west of Costa Rica, in the tropical Pacific region of the Jurassic Park universe.

The island is the setting for the original Jurassic Park and later becomes home to the operational Jurassic World. In the story, InGen leases Isla Nublar from Costa Rica and builds its dinosaur park there under John Hammond’s direction. The island’s remote location helps explain both the park’s isolation and the difficulty of rescuing visitors after the security systems fail.

A common mix-up is Isla Sorna, the other major island in the franchise. Isla Sorna is the former Site B, where dinosaurs were bred before being transferred to Nublar. Another source of confusion is filming geography: much of Nublar’s scenery was filmed in Hawaii, especially Kauai and Oahu, but the fictional island is associated with Costa Rica, not Hawaii or Panama.

In the films, Isla Nublar remains important through Jurassic World before being destroyed by a volcanic eruption in Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom.
