Mount Fuji is located in which country?

The story behind the answer

Mount Fuji is located in Japan.

Mount Fuji rises on Honshu, Japan’s largest island, about 100 kilometers southwest of Tokyo. The near-perfect cone straddles Shizuoka and Yamanashi prefectures and is Japan’s highest mountain, reaching 3,776 meters above sea level.

Fuji is an active stratovolcano formed through repeated volcanic activity. Its most recent eruption occurred from 1707 to 1708, during the Edo period. Although snow often covers its summit, the mountain is not simply a snowy peak: it remains a volcanic landmark and a culturally important sacred site.

The mountain has inspired Japanese paintings, poetry, pilgrimage, and photography for centuries. Its fame is especially associated with ukiyo-e prints such as Hokusai’s “Thirty-Six Views of Mount Fuji.” UNESCO added the mountain and related cultural sites to its World Heritage List in 2013. China and South Korea are sometimes selected as distractors because Fuji is visible from parts of the wider East Asian region, but it is entirely in Japan.
