Mother's Day in Mexico is celebrated annually on what date?

The story behind the answer

Mother’s Day in Mexico is celebrated annually on May 10.

Mexico’s Día de las Madres is fixed to May 10 every year, rather than being scheduled for a particular Sunday. That makes it different from the U.S. pattern, where Mother’s Day falls on the second Sunday of May and changes date annually.

The observance was promoted in Mexico in 1922, when the newspaper Excélsior helped launch a major campaign with government support. The holiday was adapted from the U.S. celebration but developed its own national traditions and cultural meaning. It is widely observed even though it is not a statutory public holiday.

Families commonly gather for meals, give gifts and flowers, and honor mothers with music. “Las Mañanitas,” often performed by family members, mariachi musicians, or trios, is especially associated with Mexican celebrations. May 10 can therefore fall on any weekday or weekend, unlike the movable U.S. date.
