In Norway, Mother’s Day is celebrated on the second Sunday of February.
Norway’s observance differs from the May date familiar in the United States and many other countries. Because it is tied to a weekday pattern rather than a fixed calendar date, it can fall anywhere from February 8 through February 14. In 2026, for example, it falls on February 8.
The Norwegian celebration is known as morsdag and is generally a family observance rather than a public holiday. Children and families commonly mark it with cards, flowers, breakfast, cakes, or small gifts. Since it always falls on a Sunday, ordinary Sunday trading and work patterns also affect how people celebrate.
A common mix-up is confusing Norway’s February date with the second Sunday of May used in countries such as the United States, Australia, and Japan. The United Kingdom’s Mothering Sunday is different again: it is linked to Easter and therefore moves from year to year.
