Mariscal Sucre International Airport at Tababela serves which capital?

The story behind the answer

Mariscal Sucre International Airport at Tababela serves Quito, Ecuador’s capital.

The airport is located in the Tababela parish, about 18 kilometers east of Quito, and is often informally called Tababela Airport because of that location. Its official city served is Quito, even though the terminal is outside the dense urban center. The airport’s IATA code is UIO, linking it with Quito’s traditional international-airport designation.

The facility opened on February 20, 2013, replacing the old Quito airport, which occupied a constrained site within the city. Quito’s mountainous terrain, strong winds, limited room for expansion, and safety concerns made the former airport increasingly unsuitable for modern traffic. The new airport was built on the Oyambaro plain to provide longer runways and greater capacity. The name honors Antonio José de Sucre, the independence leader and military commander.
