In Whisper of the Heart, what is the name of the boy who wants to become a violin maker?

The story behind the answer

In Whisper of the Heart, the boy who wants to become a violin maker is Seiji Amasawa.

Seiji is a talented student who dreams of becoming a master violin maker, or luthier. He studies the craft in the workshop beneath his grandfather Nishi's antique shop and later travels to Cremona, Italy, for two months of study with a master violin maker. His determination becomes one of the film's central examples of pursuing creative work seriously while still young.

Seiji's ambition inspires Shizuku Tsukishima, the film's aspiring writer. After learning that Seiji is working toward his own artistic goal, Shizuku decides to devote herself to writing and begins a story featuring the Baron, a cat statue owned by Nishi. Their relationship develops through mutual encouragement rather than simple romance.

Muta is the stray cat who leads Shizuku to the antique shop, Baron is the fictional cat figure at the center of her story, and Shizuku is the girl who wants to write. The film was released in 1995 and directed by Yoshifumi Kondō, who died in 1998.
