The film Bean was released in the United Kingdom in 1997. It was Rowan Atkinson’s first feature-length theatrical film as Mr. Bean and expanded the character’s television comedy into an international story.
The plot sends Bean to Los Angeles, where he becomes involved with the exhibition of Whistler’s painting Arrangement in Grey and Black No. 1. The movie uses the contrast between Bean’s strange behaviour and the expectations of an American art-world setting as its main comic engine.
The film is also known as Bean: The Ultimate Disaster Movie. It should not be confused with Mr. Bean’s Holiday, which followed in 2007. The two films are separated by a decade and have different directors, stories and travel settings, although both star Rowan Atkinson as the title character.
