Terminator 2: Judgment Day was released in 1991.
James Cameron directed the sequel after the success of The Terminator, and Arnold Schwarzenegger returned in a completely different narrative role. Instead of hunting Sarah Connor, his reprogrammed machine protects her son John from the liquid-metal T-1000.
The film opened in the United States on July 3, 1991. It became a major commercial success and was widely praised for combining action filmmaking with pioneering computer-generated visual effects. The T-1000’s morphing body remains one of the production’s defining achievements.
The year is sometimes confused with 1984, the release year of the original film, or 1992, the year of the Academy Awards ceremony recognizing Terminator 2. The sequel’s release date is also distinct from its story chronology: the characters discuss a future Judgment Day date, but the film itself premiered in 1991.
