In which year was J.K. Rowling’s Harry Potter novel series completed with its seventh book?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling completed the Harry Potter novel series in 2007 with Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The seventh book was published in the United Kingdom on 21 July 2007 by Bloomsbury. It brings the main conflict between Harry Potter and Lord Voldemort to its conclusion and follows Harry, Ron, and Hermione as they search for the remaining Horcruxes.

The publication was a major international event. The English-language first printing was enormous, reflecting the global demand created by the preceding six novels. Readers were asked to avoid revealing the plot immediately after release, although spoilers quickly circulated.

The date refers to completion of the original novel sequence, not the end of every Harry Potter-related publication. Rowling later published companion works and additional material, and the stage play Harry Potter and the Cursed Child opened in 2016. Those works do not change the fact that Deathly Hallows was the seventh and final novel in the original series.
