C.S. Lewis’s The Silver Chair was published in 1953.
The fourth Narnia book released by publication order follows Eustace Scrubb and Jill Pole, two children from England who are sent into Narnia by Aslan. Their mission is to find Prince Rilian, the missing son of King Caspian X.
The novel differs from earlier Narnia adventures by spending much of its action in the bleak Underland beneath the surface of the kingdom. Jill receives four signs from Aslan, but the quest becomes difficult because the travelers repeatedly forget or misunderstand them.
The Silver Chair appeared after The Voyage of the Dawn Treader and before The Horse and His Boy in publication order. Some lists arrange the series chronologically instead, but the publication year of this individual novel is fixed: 1953.
