In which year is Assassin's Creed III's Boston Tea Party sequence set?

The story behind the answer

Assassin's Creed III's Boston Tea Party sequence is set in 1773.

The mission recreates the Boston Tea Party, the protest in which American colonists opposed the British Tea Act by throwing tea into Boston Harbor. In the game, Connor participates in the operation as tensions between the colonies and Britain rise.

The historical Boston Tea Party took place on December 16, 1773. It became one of the best-known acts of resistance before the American Revolutionary War, although the war itself began later, in 1775. Assassin's Creed III uses the event as part of Connor's movement through major moments of the revolutionary period.

The date is sometimes confused with 1776 because the Declaration of Independence was adopted that year. Other nearby milestones include the Stamp Act protests of 1765 and the Boston Massacre of 1770, but neither is the date of the tea protest.
