Theo Paphitis first joined the investor panel of the UK show Dragons' Den in 2005.
Paphitis became one of the programme’s early Dragons during its first year on BBC television. He brought experience from retail and consumer businesses, and his direct questioning and focus on commercial detail became familiar features of his appearances.
The timing can be confusing because the panel changed between series. Paphitis is often described as an early or original-era Dragon, but the first series included a different five-person lineup before later episodes introduced replacements and additions. The year 2005 identifies his arrival in the early run rather than the date of a later return or special appearance.
He is also known for owning and developing retail brands outside television, including involvement with Ryman stationery stores.
