In which year did the BBC first broadcast Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

The BBC first broadcast Dragon's Den in 2005.

The British version launched on BBC Two as an adaptation of the Japanese format Money Tigers, known in Japan as Manē no Tora. Its premise was straightforward: entrepreneurs presented businesses or ideas to wealthy investors and sought funding in exchange for equity.

The first British series featured five original Dragons: Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Rachel Elnaugh, Doug Richard and Simon Woodroffe. Adrian Chiles presented that opening series, before Evan Davis became the regular presenter from series two.

The year can be confused with later milestones, such as Deborah Meaden joining the panel in the programme's third series or the arrival of newer investors. Those events happened after the BBC had already established the show in 2005.
