In which year did J.K. Rowling complete the final Harry Potter manuscript?

The story behind the answer

J.K. Rowling completed the final Harry Potter manuscript in 2007.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, the seventh and final novel, was published on 21 July 2007. Rowling completed the manuscript before publication and famously finished the book at the Balmoral Hotel in Edinburgh, where she wrote a message on a bust in her room after completing it.

The novel brings the conflict with Voldemort to its conclusion and resolves the significance of the Deathly Hallows, the Horcruxes, and Harry’s connection to his enemy. It was released simultaneously in many countries and became one of the fastest-selling books in publishing history.

The 2007 completion date is different from the date of the final film. Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was filmed as two movies, released in 2010 and 2011. The manuscript and the cinematic adaptation therefore belong to different milestones.
