In which year did Duncan Bannatyne leave the Dragon’s Den investment panel?

The story behind the answer

Duncan Bannatyne left the Dragon’s Den investment panel in 2014.

Bannatyne is a Scottish entrepreneur and philanthropist who became a dragon known for his blunt negotiating style. He built much of his business reputation through companies in health clubs, hotels and care services, giving him experience in evaluating businesses with substantial operating costs and physical locations.

His departure was part of the normal evolution of the programme’s cast. Dragon’s Den has never had a permanently fixed panel: investors have joined, departed and returned while the format continued to use the same basic pitch-and-negotiation structure.

Bannatyne’s television identity is sometimes mixed with his appearances on other business and reality programmes. In Dragon’s Den, however, his notable role was as an investor rather than as the presenter or narrator. His exit in 2014 followed several years as one of the programme’s established dragons.
