Deborah Meaden joined the UK television show Dragon's Den in 2006.
Meaden became one of the programme's most recognisable investors after joining during its early years. She replaced Rachel Elnaugh on the panel and brought experience from the leisure, retail and property sectors. Her direct questioning and emphasis on business fundamentals became recurring features of her appearances.
The distinction between 2005 and 2006 matters because Dragon's Den premiered in 2005, but Meaden was not part of the original launch panel. Peter Jones, Duncan Bannatyne, Theo Paphitis and Rachel Elnaugh were among the initial Dragons, while Meaden joined the following year.
Meaden's television role complements, rather than defines, her business career. She had already worked in and led companies before appearing on the BBC programme. She has continued to appear in later series, making her one of the show's longest-serving investors.
