In which year did Deborah Meaden first join the BBC television programme Dragon's Den?

The story behind the answer

Deborah Meaden first joined the BBC television programme Dragon's Den in 2006.

Meaden became one of the programme's most recognisable investors after joining the panel for the third series. She brought experience from the leisure and retail sectors, including her work with family businesses and her later investment activities. Her direct, commercially focused style made her a central figure in the show's long-running cast.

She did not appear in the first series. The original British Dragons included Rachel Elnaugh, but Meaden replaced Elnaugh after the early run. This distinction matters because both women are strongly associated with the programme, although only one belonged to the launch panel.

Meaden has remained associated with Dragon's Den for many years and has also appeared in other television programmes, including Strictly Come Dancing. Her Dragon's Den career is separate from her earlier business roles, which included involvement in the Weststar leisure group and family-run enterprises.
