Deborah Meaden first appeared as a Dragon's Den investor in 2006.
Meaden joined the British investment panel during the programme's second series. She had already built a career in business, including work in leisure and retail, and later became one of the most recognisable permanent Dragons. Her direct questioning and focus on business fundamentals became a defining part of her television persona.
Before joining the show, Meaden was involved with family businesses and developed particular experience in the leisure industry. She later invested in a wide range of companies, including consumer, food, hospitality and service businesses. Her television role complemented her existing career rather than creating it from nothing.
The year 2006 is distinct from the programme's launch year, 2005. The original panel appeared in the first series, while Meaden arrived for the following series. This timing is also why descriptions of her as a long-serving Dragon are accurate even though she was not part of the first episode's investor line-up.
