Tesla moved its corporate headquarters from Palo Alto, California, to Austin in December 2021. The company announced the change at its annual shareholder meeting held at its Gigafactory Texas facility near Austin. The move placed Tesla's headquarters close to one of its major manufacturing sites.
Tesla's Austin complex is associated with Gigafactory Texas, which began producing vehicles in 2022. The factory manufactures Model Y vehicles and is also linked to production of the Cybertruck. Tesla still maintains major operations in California, including facilities in Fremont and Palo Alto, so Austin should not be confused with the company's historic California base.
