In which siege did the Ottomans fail to capture Belgrade in 1456?

The story behind the answer

In which siege did the Ottomans fail to capture Belgrade in 1456? They failed during the Siege of Belgrade. The Ottoman army, led by Sultan Mehmed II, attacked the strategically vital Hungarian fortress from 4 to 22 July 1456.

Belgrade stood at the meeting point of the Danube and Sava rivers and guarded routes into Central Europe. Its defenders were commanded by the Hungarian military leader John Hunyadi, with support from Michael Szilágyi and the Franciscan preacher John of Capistrano. Ottoman artillery opened breaches, but the defenders resisted repeated assaults.

A crucial turning point came on 14 July, when Hunyadi’s forces broke the Ottoman naval blockade on the Danube and brought reinforcements and supplies into the fortress. On 21 July, the Ottomans launched a major assault, but a counterattack drove them back. Mehmed was wounded, and the Ottoman army withdrew the following day.

The victory temporarily halted Ottoman expansion toward Central Europe. Belgrade eventually fell to the Ottomans in 1521 under Suleiman the Magnificent.
