The original 151-Pokémon games are primarily set in the Kanto region.
Kanto is the setting for Pokémon Red, Green, Blue, and Yellow, as well as the first anime season. Players begin in Pallet Town and travel through cities, routes, caves, forests, and the Pokémon League while collecting Gym Badges.
The region’s name comes from the real-world Kantō region of Japan, although the Pokémon version rearranges and reimagines locations for gameplay. Its map includes recognizable landmarks such as Viridian Forest, Pokémon Tower, the Safari Zone, and the Indigo Plateau.
Kanto is often confused with Johto because Pokémon Gold and Silver allow players to return to Kanto after completing the Johto story. However, Johto is the neighboring region introduced in the second generation. Kanto’s original Pokédex runs from Bulbasaur at number 001 to Mew at number 151.
