In which Providence cemetery is H. P. Lovecraft buried?

The story behind the answer

In which Providence cemetery is H. P. Lovecraft buried? He is buried in Swan Point Cemetery.

Lovecraft died in Providence on March 15, 1937, at age 46, and was buried in Swan Point Cemetery. His burial was recorded on the Phillips family monument, where he was listed alongside his parents rather than initially having a separate, prominent grave marker.

The cemetery is located in Providence and contains many notable Rhode Island graves. Lovecraft’s resting place became an important destination for readers and admirers, especially as interest in his fiction and the Cthulhu Mythos grew after his death.

In 1977, fans placed a headstone bearing his name, dates, and the phrase “I AM PROVIDENCE,” taken from one of his letters. That later marker is why visitors sometimes distinguish between the family monument and the better-known Lovecraft headstone.
