In which Pennsylvania city was Mister Rogers' Neighborhood produced?

The story behind the answer

Mister Rogers' Neighborhood was produced in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.

The program was made primarily by WQED, Pittsburgh's public television station, in partnership with Fred Rogers' production company. Its studio location gave the show a strong connection to the city, even though the fictional Neighborhood of Make-Believe existed in its own storybook world.

Fred Rogers had already worked at WQED in the 1950s on The Children's Corner before developing his later programs. After working in Canada on Misterogers, he returned to Pittsburgh and brought the format, characters, and several set elements back to WQED. The first national episode of Misterogers' Neighborhood aired in 1968, and the familiar title soon became Mister Rogers' Neighborhood.

Pittsburgh was not merely a fictional stand-in: it was the show's real production base. Taping took place at WQED studios, and the production studio was later renamed the Fred Rogers Studio. Rogers' work remains closely tied to Pittsburgh through archives, public artworks, and local institutions.
