In which New York county was Wardenclyffe Tower located?

Wardenclyffe Tower was located in Suffolk County, New York.

The tower stood near Shoreham on Long Island, within the town of Brookhaven. Tesla purchased roughly 200 acres there in 1901 for an experimental wireless station and laboratory. The site’s name came from land developer James S. Warden, whose planned community was called Wardenclyffe-on-Sound.

Tesla intended the station to transmit messages, telephone calls, images, and eventually electrical power without wires. The tower reached roughly 187 feet and carried a large metal cupola. Construction and expansion consumed Tesla’s funds, and financier J. P. Morgan declined to provide the additional money the enlarged project required.

A common mix-up is confusing the tower with Tesla’s Colorado Springs laboratory, which was in Colorado. Wardenclyffe was on Long Island; the tower was demolished for scrap in 1917, while the nearby laboratory building survived and later became part of the Tesla Science Center at Wardenclyffe.
