In which Japanese city is Toyota Motor Corporation's headquarters located?

The story behind the answer

Toyota Motor Corporation's headquarters is located in Toyota City, Aichi Prefecture, Japan. The city was formerly called Koromo and adopted the name Toyota in 1959 because of the automaker's enormous local importance.

Toyota's headquarters complex is in the city where the company developed much of its manufacturing identity. The business began as an automobile division of Toyoda Automatic Loom Works, founded by Kiichiro Toyoda in 1937. Toyota City lies within the wider Chūkyō industrial region, which also includes Nagoya and has long been central to Japanese manufacturing.

Toyota City should not be confused with Nagoya, the nearby major metropolitan center and capital of Aichi Prefecture. Toyota operates factories, design centers, research facilities, and sales offices in many other countries, but the corporate headquarters remains in Toyota City. The name can sound like a generic reference to the company; it is also the official name of a real Japanese city.
