In which historical country is most of Assassin's Creed Odyssey set?

The story behind the answer

Most of Assassin's Creed Odyssey is set in Ancient Greece.

The game takes place during the Peloponnesian War in the fifth century BCE, a conflict between Athens and Sparta that lasted from 431 to 404 BCE. Its open world includes mainland regions and islands associated with the Aegean world, allowing players to travel by land and sea.

Players control Kassandra or Alexios, descendants of King Leonidas I of Sparta. The game combines historical figures and events with fictional elements, including the series' Isu mythology and its branching role-playing narrative.

Odyssey is sometimes confused with Origins because both feature ancient settings and a large explorable world. Origins is centered on Ptolemaic Egypt, while Odyssey moves the action to Greece several centuries earlier. The game was released in 2018.
