Bayerische Motoren Werke AG, better known as BMW, is headquartered in Munich, Germany.
BMW's name means Bavarian Motor Works, and its headquarters reflects the company's deep connection with Bavaria. The BMW Group headquarters complex stands beside the BMW Museum and BMW Welt, near the company's famous four-cylinder office tower and Olympic Park.
BMW began in 1916 as an aircraft-engine manufacturer before becoming known for motorcycles and automobiles. Its blue-and-white roundel is commonly associated with Bavarian colors, although popular explanations connecting the logo directly to a spinning aircraft propeller are historically misleading.
BMW operates manufacturing plants and offices in many countries, including major facilities outside Germany. Those locations do not replace Munich as the group's corporate headquarters. Munich is also home to BMW's design, engineering, museum, and visitor attractions.
