In which country was Elton John born?

Elton John was born in England. He was born Reginald Kenneth Dwight on 25 March 1947 in Pinner, Middlesex, a town now within the London Borough of Harrow.

John grew up in and around Pinner and showed exceptional musical ability from an early age. He studied at the Royal Academy of Music in London as a teenager, where his piano talent developed alongside his interest in popular music. He left school at 17 to pursue music professionally, eventually working as a pianist and songwriter before becoming a major recording artist.

A common mix-up is answering London rather than England. Pinner is part of Greater London today, but the question asks for the country, making England the appropriate answer. Scotland, Wales, and Ireland are separate places within the British Isles, but none is John's birthplace. His stage name came later: he legally changed his name to Elton Hercules John in 1972.
