In which country is the world's tallest building located?
Answer
United Arab Emirates
Answer
United Arab Emirates
The world’s tallest building is located in the United Arab Emirates. The Burj Khalifa rises above Downtown Dubai, in the emirate of Dubai, UAE.
Construction began in 2004, and the tower opened on January 4, 2010. Designed by the Chicago-based firm Skidmore, Owings & Merrill, it reaches 828 metres to its architectural top and 829.8 metres including its antenna. Its height surpassed Taiwan’s Taipei 101, which had held the skyscraper record since 2004.
The building was initially called Burj Dubai. It was renamed Burj Khalifa during its inauguration to honour Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan, then president of the UAE and ruler of Abu Dhabi. Abu Dhabi also provided financial support to Dubai during the global financial crisis.
A common mix-up is confusing the country with the city: Dubai is the city, while the United Arab Emirates is the country. The UAE is a federation of seven emirates, including Dubai and Abu Dhabi.
