Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company is headquartered in Taiwan.
TSMC, commonly called Taiwan Semiconductor, was founded in 1987 and pioneered the dedicated semiconductor foundry model. Instead of primarily designing chips under its own consumer brand, it manufactures processors designed by other companies.
That model allows customers such as Apple, Nvidia, and AMD to concentrate on chip architecture while TSMC operates advanced fabrication plants. This division between chip design and manufacturing became one of the defining structures of the modern semiconductor industry.
TSMC's importance to global markets comes from its manufacturing scale and advanced process technology. Its headquarters are in Hsinchu, Taiwan, which is also a major center for the island's technology sector. TSMC is sometimes mistaken for a South Korean company because Samsung is another leading advanced-chip manufacturer, but the two businesses are headquartered in different places.
