The 1989 Daulatpur-Saturia tornado occurred in Bangladesh.

The tornado struck Manikganj District, west of Dhaka, on April 26, 1989. It moved east from Daulatpur toward Saturia, with Saturia among the hardest-hit areas. The disaster devastated settlements, uprooted trees, destroyed homes, and left roughly 80,000 people homeless.

Bangladesh is especially vulnerable to severe pre-monsoon thunderstorms because warm, humid air from the Bay of Bengal can meet cooler, drier air from the Himalayas. Strong wind shear and atmospheric instability can then produce rotating supercell storms and tornadoes. These local storms are sometimes called nor'westers or Kalbaishakhi.

A common mix-up is confusing the tornado's location with nearby India, where some of the storm-fueling weather systems developed. The tornado itself tracked through Bangladesh. Its death toll is often given as approximately 1,300, though historical estimates contain uncertainty.
