In which city is the Liberty Bell displayed?
Answer
Philadelphia
Answer
Philadelphia
The Liberty Bell is displayed in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The bell is housed in the Liberty Bell Center within Independence National Historical Park, across the street from Independence Hall. It was originally placed in the steeple of the Pennsylvania State House, the building now known as Independence Hall.
The bell was commissioned by Pennsylvania’s provincial assembly in 1752 and cast by the London firm Lester and Pack, later known as the Whitechapel Bell Foundry. Local workmen John Pass and John Stow recast it after it cracked, and their names appear on the bell.
Its famous inscription comes from the Bible: “Proclaim LIBERTY Throughout all the Land unto all the Inhabitants Thereof.” The bell became widely known as the Liberty Bell in the nineteenth century, especially through its adoption by abolitionist groups. A popular story says it rang for the 1776 public reading of the Declaration, but no contemporary record confirms that event.
