In which city does the Eiffel Tower stand?

The story behind the answer

The Eiffel Tower stands in Paris, France.

The tower was built on the Champ de Mars beside the Seine for the 1889 Exposition Universelle, a world’s fair celebrating the centenary of the French Revolution. Engineer Gustave Eiffel’s company designed and constructed the iron monument, which was initially intended to be temporary.

At 300 metres when completed, the Eiffel Tower became the world’s tallest man-made structure, surpassing the Washington Monument. Later additions, including its antenna, increased its total height; its height changes slightly as metal expands and contracts with temperature.

Many artists and intellectuals initially criticized the tower’s design, but it became a defining symbol of Paris. It also served practical purposes, including radio transmission, and helped scientific experiments in wireless communication.
