Lenovo traces its origins to Legend, a company founded in Beijing in 1984 by Chinese scientists led by Liu Chuanzhi. The business became a major personal-computer manufacturer in China before adopting the Lenovo name and expanding internationally. Beijing therefore remains central to its corporate history and global headquarters structure.
Lenovo also maintains major operational centers in Morrisville, North Carolina, and Singapore. Those locations support international management, research, and business activities, which can make the headquarters question confusing. The company's global headquarters, however, is in Beijing.
Lenovo became especially prominent worldwide after acquiring IBM's personal-computer division in 2005. It later acquired IBM's x86 server business and Motorola Mobility. These deals expanded Lenovo beyond its Chinese origins, but they did not change its headquarters city.
