In which Chinese city is Alibaba Group headquartered?
Answer
Hangzhou
Answer
Hangzhou
Alibaba Group is headquartered in Hangzhou, China.
Alibaba was founded in 1999 by Jack Ma and a group of co-founders. The company began as an internet business connecting Chinese manufacturers with buyers around the world, then expanded into online retail, cloud computing, digital payments, logistics, and other technology services. Hangzhou, in Zhejiang province, has remained its corporate home.
Alibaba's main campus is known as Xixi Campus, named after the Xixi area of Hangzhou. The city became an important technology and entrepreneurship center, helped by Alibaba's growth and by its proximity to Shanghai while retaining a distinct regional identity.
Shanghai, Shenzhen, and Beijing are all major Chinese business and technology centers, so they can be plausible alternatives. Shenzhen is strongly associated with Tencent and electronics companies, while Beijing hosts many government-linked and internet firms. Alibaba's headquarters, however, is specifically in Hangzhou.
